Knowledge hub Evidence and research An Assessment of the Microbiological Water Quality of Sand Dams in Southeastern Kenya Published in May 2018 Water stored within sand dams is clean, and safe to drink! This is according to this latest paper written by Cranfield University Water and Science Institute (based on two studies; one by London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and one by Cranfield). Note: the research also found that there can be risks of contamination after abstraction, when people transport and store it at home. However, the installation of handpumps and WASH training with communities greatly reduces this risk. Click here to read the full paper Manage Cookie Preferences
