In September 2026, Jane and I will be taking part in a 7 day Barclays Sand Dam Expedition in Kenya, working alongside Sand Dams Worldwide and the local community to help build a sand dam.

The project is focused on improving access to water in drought-prone areas. Sand dams capture and store rainwater, creating a sustainable source of water that can support families, farming, health and wider community resilience. Through Barclays’ partnership with Sand Dams Worldwide, colleagues will travel to Kenya to work alongside local community members on a tangible project with long-term impact.

We will be supporting the Nzina SHG in Makueni County. This is a self-formed community group of farmers who have come together for community development and have approached ASDF for support to improve access to food and water. This will be the first time the group has worked with the project team and their very first sand dam.

Back in Jersey, we are also bringing colleagues together through our Barclays Spin for Kenya event — a fundraising Spinathon designed to raise awareness, encourage participation and support the wider fundraising effort.

Any donation, large or small, will help support this important work. Thank you for backing us and helping make a practical difference to communities working to secure reliable access to water. Rholo Mba
