We are delighted to announce that Sand Dams Worldwide are winners in the category of 'Charity of the Year with an income of £1 million - £10 million' at the 2019 Charity Times Awards!

For over 16 years, Sand Dams Worldwide has been supporting communities in drylands to transform their own lives and land with sand dams. Sand dams are a little known rainwater harvesting technology that can capture and store up to 40 million litres of clean water, every rainfall, enough year-round water for over 1,000 people.

They are highly effective, but hugely underused, and provide a vital resource to rural communities in need of clean water and food. They also present an important opportunity for climate change adaptation and mitigation in drylands.

Charity Times Awards 2019 winnersSince 2002, Sand Dams Worldwide has enabled the construction of over 1,000 sand dams in 9 countries, providing over 1 million people with lifelong access to water and food security.

We'd like to thank the Charity Times Awards for considering and recognising the work of Sand Dams Worldwide.

We'd also like to acknowledge our in-country partners, all of our supporters and funders, our dedicated staff, trustees and volunteers, our founder Simon Maddrell, and of course, our beneficiaries, who are the reason we exist.

As a small team, we are extremely proud of what we and the communities we support have achieved. However, with a vision to enable the build of over 1 million sand dams for 0.5 billion people by 2040, there is still so much to do, and so many more lives that could be transformed with sand dams.

So please do get in contact if you'd like to support us or know more about what we do. We'd be delighted to hear from you.

Sand dams enable rural dryland farmers to transform their own lives, reducing the time and effort spent on collecting water so that communities can focus on developing sustainable futures. Please donate to help more rural people invest in their own livelihoods, and become self-sustaining for generations to come.
