Nigel Reader CBE joined Sand Dams Worldwide's board of trustees as Treasurer on 7 September 2015.

Nigel has 40 years experience as an accountant, most recently as the Director of Finance for the Environment Agency, a role he held for 14 years.

In his early career Nigel worked in the private sector before moving to the public sector and environmental services, notably with Wessex Water Authority and the National Rivers Authority.

Nigel said:

"I'm delighted to have joined the board as Honorary Treasurer and am looking forward to contributing to the wonderful work of Sand Dams Worldwide from my skill-base in financial management and governance. It will also be an opportunity to work again with (Sand Dams Worldwide Chairman) David Jordan for whose leadership and integrity I have the highest regard."

Nigel retired from full-time employment in 2009 and has developed a portfolio of non-executive roles on the boards of the Marine Management Organisation, Natural England and Natural Resources Wales. He chairs the audit and risk assurance committees of all three bodies, as well as being a member of the audit & risk assurance committee of the UK’s Joint Nature Conservation Committee.

Nigel has a long association with the charity WaterAid. He served on the board of trustees for 12 years until 2011, and chaired WaterAid’s audit & risk committee for most of that time, as well as being a member of the nominations committee.

Nigel was awarded a CBE in 2003 for his services to the environment.
